Board of Directors

Chris Oldfield
Chair and Non-Executive Director
Chris was appointed Chair of Shaw in March 2019. Prior to joining the Shaw Board, Chris was Australia’s Consul-General in San Francisco and the Australian Trade and Investments Commission’s (Austrade’s) Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner on the west coast of the USA.
Previously, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd, the CEO of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and a former Member of the Joint Commonwealth and Tasmanian Economic Council.

David Finnigan
Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary
David joined Sonic Civil Investments as Chief Executive Officer in September 2024. A highly accomplished executive with over 30 years in the civil infrastructure industry, David brings a proven strategic leadership approach to his role. His extensive experience includes Non-Executive Director, Executive Director, and senior executive positions, with expertise in Strategy, Operations, Transformation, M&A, Governance, and Risk. Passionate about the civil infrastructure industry. David enjoys a leading reputation and strong connectivity. He has a successful track record of delivering strategic initiatives that drive cultural change, while maintaining focus on operational excellence, business development, and key client relationships. David excels in leading high-performing teams to achieve outstanding results.

Steve Davy
Non-Executive Director
Steve was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Shaw in September 2020. He was the former Hydro Tasmania Chief Executive leading Hydro’s $2 billion business with the responsibility for 1200 staff and 250,000 customers and also served in senior Board roles with the Australian Energy Council. Prior to joining Hydro in 2005, he had a career in national energy and financial markets.
Steve has a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Physics and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Joe Luttrell
Executive Director
Joe has been a member of the Sonic Board since June 2016 and currently serves as Executive Director. He is also the CEO of Shaw Contracting, a role he has held since July 2017. During his tenure as Managing Director of Sonic, Joe has lead the acquisition of the Hardings Group (the merged entity of Harding’s Hotmix and CBB), the development of property companies JCBGP P/L and Abel Hills Developments P/L, and the establishment of material testing firm RARE Earth CMT.
A Fellow of Engineers Australia and Chartered Engineering Executive, Joe is also a Graduate and former Tasmanian Councillor of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Nic Broomhall
Executive Director
Nic joined the board of Sonic in March 2021 as an Executive Director following Sonic’s acquisition of the Hardings Group – the merged entity of Hardings Hotmix and CBB Contracting.
Nic was formerly the Managing Director of CBB Contracting and was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Hardings Group as part of the merger with Hardings Hotmix.
Nic has extensive experience in the civil industry, and is highly skilled in operational excellence and the delivery of strategy. Nic is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Winton Maher
Executive Director and CFO
Winton is a founding director of the Sonic board established in August 2013. Win is an energetic, passionate and self-motivated Tasmanian, with in excess of 20 years’ experience in the broad disciplines of Financial Management and Control, Strategic Management, Business Compliance and Corporate Governance.
Win is a Fellow Certified Practicing Accountant (FCPA) and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Marcus Stephens
Executive Director
Marcus joined the board in 2026 as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Stornoway. Marcus is a highly accomplished infrastructure executive with a proven strategic leadership approach and more than twenty years’ experience across asset management, road maintenance and civil construction at both state and national levels.
Marcus has a successful track record of delivering strategic initiatives, excelling in leading high-performing teams to achieve outstanding results. He enjoys a leading reputation and strong connectivity within the civil infrastructure industry.
